2) Drought, Climate Change, and American beliefs (Part 2 )

Here I will talk about American thinking on Climate Change.

In the link below, we have a report from the Department of Agriculture.  They predict that price increases will be short term.

http://www.ers.usda.gov/newsroom/us-drought-2012-farm-and-food-impacts.aspx

The business people seem to assume that eventually the drought conditions will ease, and things will return to normal.

They are not talking to the scientists.

There are Americans who understand.  I am indebted to Tom Englehardt of Tom Dispatch.  He is very honest, he is predicting starvation.  In America, and very soon.

And William deBuys.

I highly recommend this book by Mr. DeBuys:

Also, University of Michigan Professor Juan Cole.  He generally writes about the Middle East, but he also makes some very good comments about green energy.

But are so many Americans truly so ignorant?  Yes.

The greatest problem here is American Christianity.  I must say here that American Christianity is much different than in Europe.  In particular, American Christian Fundamentalism.  Really, it is like a cult.  Their teachings are very different from normal Christianity.  Basically, they think that if you believe in God, God will satisfy all desires.  Of course then God will solve all problems, such as Global Warming.  So there is no need for humans to worry about Climate Change, they can continue their lifestyle.  They are ignoring the fact that this lifestyle is causing pollution that is destroying the planet.

Roughly, this is half the American population.

According to this link by an American television science commentator, 78% believe that the Christian God is controlling evolution, or that God created humans as they exist today 10,000 years ago, evolution doesn't exist.

Powerful politicians such as Congressman John Shimkus, Chairman of the Environment and Energy committee, say we don't have to worry about Climate change, because after the Great Flood God promised Noah that he would never ruin the earth again.

Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney's Vice Presidential pick, Paul Ryan, says that because it snows in his State of Wisconsin, Global Warming is a hoax.

Candidate Romney himself says that Climate Change is not a problem.

Many average Americans themselves think that by praying to Jesus, they will be saved from the drought.

http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2012/07/18/praying-for-rain-in-the-arkansas-drought/

And here is the Governor of Texas, praying for rain.

By the way, in that link about Arkansas, the trees there normally lose their leaves in the fall, in November or so.  This year, the leaves disappeared in August.  The trees have shut down until they get water.

Well, in Japan we have a Japanese politician who says that nuclear power is safe because Nostradamus did not predict the world's end by nuclear power.

It is really difficult for intelligent Americans to explain the most basic science facts when so many people get so emotional, and start quoting the Bible.  The religious people always say "The Bible is the word of God, how can you say God is wrong?!?!"

I think this is very hard for Japanese people to understand.  But when it comes to religion, so many Americans get dogmatic and stubborn.

In the 1930's dust bowl, some 350,000 people moved as their land turned to desert.

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%80%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%9C%E3%82%A6%E3%83%AB

The above map shows the area affected in the 1930's.  Please compare it to the map below, the area affected now.

The amount of refuges will be enormous.  I think, well I think that this is the end of America as we know it.  There will be starvation and mass disorder in America.

This drought has been building for 30 years, there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

In Japan, many people depend on America psychologically.  They think that America is our big brother, America will always protect Japan.

To the people of Japan, we must prepare.  In the near future, there will be no more American military in Japan, they will be recalled to try and control the US population in this disaster.

There will be no more food exports to Japan.  Well if America does not have enough food, how can they send food to Japan?

Of course, it is possible that this coming winter could have a miraculous snowfall.  It happened in the the winter of 2010/2011.  Otherwise the 2011 drought would have been much worse.  But it is very unlikely.  And in any case, we cannot depend on miracles for the future, they are exceptional events.

In Japan, we are going to have to prepare, for a world without America.
