Crimea

A few weeks ago, Russia annexed the Crimea.  Right away, America and Western news media labeled this as an aggressive move by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A plebiscite was held in the Crimea, which was denounced by President Obama.

However, things are not always so easily defined.  It turns out that Ukrainian members of the Ukrainian Parliament took advantage of the chaos to remove the Russian language’s status as an official language.

In other former Soviet republics, this has always led to discrimination and harassment of Russian people.

Let us look at a few maps.

As we can see, a large portion of The Ukraine speaks Russian as their native language.

Looking at the Crimea itself, we can see that most people there are actually Russians.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Then President Bush promised Mikhail Gorbachev that NATO would not be expanded eastward.

But what happened?

This is a map of NATO in the Cold War era.

This is a map of NATO presently.  As we can see, America broke it’s promise, and expanded eastwards.

Some people might say that America is protecting the freedom of Eastern European people.  But now their problems have become NATO’s problems.

And Russia has enough nuclear weapons to destroy America in 30 minutes.

When Americans criticize Russia for being an evil nation, I have much sympathy.  It sounds just the same as Americans criticizing the Japanese Yasukuni shrine.  The words are the same.

Americans say “Russia is a country that cannot be trusted.  Japanese people who have pride in Imperial Japan cannot be trusted.”

Well, in any case, the American President is trapped in such a situation as this.  If he does not make some aggressive comment to Russia, he will be accused by American political opponents as being weak.

I have always admired the Russian people for their forbearance with America breaking it’s promise.

But I think there is some business aspect to this problem.  Americans have always been upset about Russian Natural Gas exports to Europe.  America wants to supply the gas themselves, and say that Shale Gas deposits in the US will give them that ability.

Is this true?  Not at all.

America does not have the infrastructure, special ships, pipelines and terminals, to export Natural Gas.

American gas Natural Gas production is actually in decline.

And two years ago, drought forced some gas fracking operations in Pennsylvania to cease operations.

This is a very bad sign, as the North American continent is in the middle of a shift to a desert climate.

The best course for Japan in this problem is to do nothing.  Yes, America is the most important country for Japan today.  However, very soon, that most important country will be Russia.  We should remember that.

not sure if people will understand, but this is pure propaganda. America love japan.

Mr. Assen, very unfortunately, half of Americans are still fighting WWII in their hearts and hate and fear Japan. But Americans really don't love ANY other country. They spend to much time loving themselves.
