A few weeks ago, Prime Minister Abe made a promotion photo shoot in a Japanese Air Force jet training craft.

Predictably, the Koreans started screaming how awful this was. It was taken as a sign that Japanese people are on the march to war again.
予想通り、韓国人は騒ぎを始めました。彼達の話で、この撮影は日本がもう一度戦争への道に進み始めた証拠と叫びました。

But some of my friends in America were very worried too. The truth is, Americans are way too oversensitive. And they are very worried that Japan will again fight a war like the Second World War.

A month or two ago, North Korea made a big show with a missile. We saw pictures appear of Kim Jong Un planning an attack. The map behind him shows missile flight routes into the United States.

I am sure that the leader of North Korea would get the best boat when he travels. But the Army has to get out and push.

But Americans were very afraid that North Korea might launch a missile. Give me a break! Personally, I don't believe that North Korea has a workable nuclear weapon. I think they are faking the tests, simply tons and tons of explosives laced with nuclear material.

In any case, even if they did have the bomb, they cannot possibly possess more than five. And they don't have a reliable missile delivery system.

America has 5,000 nuclear weapons. If North Korea launched a nuclear weapon against a South Korean, Japanese, or American target, the result would be American annihilation of North Korea.

When North Korea does these performances, they want something. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them, not panic.

Well, in any case, what was the reason for all the panic over Prime Minister Abe's photo? It is the number of the aircraft, 731. What does that number mean? It is the number for a Japanese army medical unit that conducted experiments on people in Manchuria in WWII. The subjects all died.

What my American friends feared was, that Prime Minister Abe sitting in an aircraft with the number 731 was a secret code meaning that he intended to start another war.

This idea is so ridiculous, it is hard for me to write this. Americans are always worried that Japan will start another war. Since the election of Prime Minister Abe, there has been constant criticism from Westerners.

It is really condescending. In fact, it is insulting. Apparently, according to the Ambassador, Japanese must feel guilty about the war for all eternity. Of course, to his feeling, the British never did anything bad.

That of course is not true. Britain has done many terrible things. Japan did kill many people in the war, but that is what wars are. But for Britain, and the United States, most wars they engaged in were for profit.

Americans still treat Japan in this way. Every Japanese politician is constantly watched by Western journalists. If someone says something like, maybe the Japanese Imperial Armed forces were not so bad, in the Western press that politician is attacked for being a revisionist.

A word to my American friends. Don't worry, Japan is not going to start another war. We experienced a terrible war recently. We just want pride in our identity. American military people of course know war well. But the general American populace has not experienced war since 1865.

And what happened to Unit 731 after the war? After all, in all my study of Japanese military history, this is the only incident that in my opinion could be considered a war crime.
