From what I can see, the trip did not produce anything positive, only negatives.

In fact, the basic meaning of his statement in English is this. Concerning the issue, South Korea is totally correct. Japan is totally wrong. President Obama said Prime Minister Abe understands that Japan is wrong.

Recently, there was a tragic ferry disaster off the Korean southwestern coast. Prime Minister Abe immediately offered Japanese help.
最近、韓国南西海岸沖で、悲惨なフェリー災害が有りました。早速、安倍総理大臣が日本海上保安庁の救助隊の派遣を申し出ました。
Japan has an extensive and well equipped Coast Guard, with 220 rescue divers. The next nearest source of foreign help would have been the US Navy in Japan. They probably have divers, I do not know. But these divers would be trained and equipped for Special Forces type missions.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Japan could have rescued anybody. It is a terrible disaster. But the Japanese Coast Guard would have made it’s best effort.

On the net, I have read various comments from South Koreans that the accident was Japan’s fault.

Why? Well the ship was built in Japan. During the period when Korea was part of Japan, Japanese started the custom of school trips. So the children died because of Japan.

These are not rational arguments. Yes the ship was built in Japan. But Koreans made extensive modifications. After the modifications, the ship could carry 1,000 tons of cargo.

However it turns out that the ship was carrying 3,600 tons of cargo alone. That means it could only make very slow, gradual turns. The area where the disaster happened is very difficult, with many islands and rocks.

President Obama steps into all this telling us to make up and be friends.
こう言う色々な問題にオバマ大統領が入って、日本と韓国に仲良くしなさいと命令を出しています。
Mr. President, it will not work, this problem is much more complex than that. It simply cannot be solved by telling both countries to get along.

I think that the US President should learn the reality of the history between Japan and Korea.

South Korea is now going to be quick to attack Japan. Frankly speaking, the ferry rescue was totally botched. Why did it take 3 days for rescuers to first enter the ferry? If it had been a Japanese rescue force, they would have been inside in a couple of hours.

I think President Obama has made an extreme strategic error. He placed Japan in a position, that to continue the Japanese American relationship, we must surrender again. We must accept whatever South Korea does to us, and America will enforce it.
オバマ大統領は強大な戦略的な間違いをしたでしょう。彼の声明で、日本は日米関係を続く為に、もう一度降伏する必要です。これから、韓国は日本にどんな事をさせても受けるしか有りません。アメリカは韓国の要求を強要する事を約束しています。
The facts of course are South Koreans are lying about the whole affair. All the terrible things they say, they made it up. But now Japan has to accept these lies, or America will punish Japan?
勿論、真実は韓国人はすべて嘘を作っています。彼達の言っている残酷の話は完璧に作り話です。しかし、これから、日本はこの嘘を受けないと、アメリカが日本に罰しますか？
This is the end of the Japanese American relationship as it has been since the Pacific War. It will be changed greatly. In fact, the President of America has placed us in a situation just short of war.
