Whaling wars redux 再び捕鯨戦

On February 15th last month, a Mr. Pete Bethune, former "Captain" of the Andy Gil, illegally boarded a Japanese whaling ship in Antarctic waters. He was protesting the sinking of his own ship by the Japanese ship he boarded.

今年２月１５日に、ピートベチューンさん、アディギル号の元”船長”は南極沖で捕鯨活動中、日本捕鯨船に違反的に乗りました。日本捕鯨船は自分の船をぶつけられて沈没しました。

And that is why in the previous paragraph I put the word Captain in quotation marks. In English, this means I do not respect Mr. Bethune, I do not feel he deserves the title of Captain.

前の節で、船長と言う単語を””クォーテーションマークをしました理由は有ります。その理由は、私はこのベチューンさんに尊敬も有りませんし、船長ではないと思っています。英語で、クォーテーションマークをこう言う風に使うと、その意味に成ります。

I say this because no true Captain would willingly endanger his ship and crew. I saw the video, Mr. Bethune maneuvered his vessel in front of the Japanese ship and stopped. He put both ships and their crews in danger.

何故私がこう思っているのは、本物の船長は絶対に自分の船と乗組員を危険状態にさせません。ビデオを見ましたら、ベチューンさんはわざと日本捕鯨船の前に移動して、そこで止まりました。両方の船を危険状態にしました。

I think it is high time for the Japanese government to get strict with such people. I think Mr. Bethune should be tried in court for his actions. Put aside emotional arguments of is whaling right or wrong, stick to the facts. And those facts are:

日本政府は、この様な人に厳しくしていいと思います。ベチューンさんは日本で裁判所にかけた方がいいと思います。捕鯨は正しいかどうかの話をおいといて、現実的に進みましょう。
その事実は：

The Sea Shepard group is no duly constituted government backed authority. They are taking the law into their own hands.

シーシェパードのグループは、国で作られた機関とか部隊では有りません。彼達の活動は、自分勝手にしています。

Japanese whaling is conducted within the rules set out by the International Whaling Commission. It is thusly legal.

日本の捕鯨活動は、国際捕鯨委員会のルールに従って行なっています。それで、法律で許されています。
Now the thing is, sometimes in the West, and I have seen this in America, people do not agree with the ruling of a law, they decide to take action on their own, or "Take the law into their own hands". Now in the United States, while some people might understand the emotions and feelings behind an issue, this is not forgiven. A person who does such a thing will be arrested and punished.

時々、西洋の国で、アメリカでもこの事は有ります。有る法律を嫌いな人が居ます。同意しません。その人は自分でかってにその法律反対の活動を始めます。アメリカ合衆国では、心的な気持ちを理解するかも知れませんが、違反的な活動を許しません。こう言う事をする人は逮捕して罰します。

Two years ago, two activists also boarded a Japanese whaling ship. They were treated with kindness by the Japanese crew. They repaid the kindness by planting tracking devices on the Japanese ships.

２年前に、このシーシェパードグループの二人は日本捕鯨船に勝手に乗りました。日本の乗組員から優しい扱いをされました。その扱いの返しは、日本捕鯨船に追跡装置を隠しました。

What would happen if the shoe was on the other foot, and an American fishing fleet was being attacked by such ecoterrorists? Well the United States would send the US Coast Guard to protect the fishing fleet. In America, Coast Guard vessels are armed and are considered warships. Service in the United States Coast Guard is considered military service.

逆の場合でしたら、どう成りますか？例えば、アメリカの漁業艦隊が、この環境テロリストから攻撃されました？漁業艦隊を守る為に沿岸警備隊を出します。アメリカの沿岸警備隊船は武器が有りますし、アメリカでは軍艦として考えられています。沿岸警備隊で活動をする事は、軍隊活動と一緒と見られています。

If such a group as Sea Shepard harassed the US fishing fleet, at first they would be warned. If they did not stop their dangerous activity, a shot would be fired across their bows. They would be boarded and the crew arrested. If the Sea Shepard ships resisted boarding and tried to ram the US ships, the Coast Guard would fire upon them and sink them.

シーシェパードの様なグループはアメリカ漁業艦隊に嫌がらせをすると、最初に注意されます。注意されても、嫌がらせをやめない場合、船首の前に注意の様に大砲を打ちます。沿岸警備隊は彼達の船に乗って、乗組員を逮捕します。もし、シーシェパード船の乗組員は沿岸警備隊と戦い、沿岸警備隊船に激突をしましたら、沿岸警備隊船が撃って沈没させます。

So I think in this issue, to gain international respect, Japan should prosecute and imprison Mr. Bethune. Believe me, people in the West would understand.

この問題で、世界の国々の尊敬を受ける為に、ベチューンさんを起訴して、刑務所に入れるべきです。西洋人はこれを理解出来ます。

And as far as whaling goes, we are about to face a period of world wide food shortages. I think the Japanese government should maintain the whaling fleet as an option to feed the Japanese people.

捕鯨問題について、これから世界では食料は足りません。日本は捕鯨艦隊を食料のオプションとして守るべきと思います。

For all those boys and girls who are involved with this Mr. Watson, they should give some thought as to his motivations. He is a show off, and using his actions to promote himself on television and the speaking circuit. Frankly, the recklessness of his actions show that he does not care if somebody gets killed. And while I do not think Mr. Watson would care if a Japanese crew person on the whaling ships was killed, it would be much better propaganda for him if one of his own crew were killed. That appears to be his main goal. All the people who obey his orders should give that some deep thought.

このシーシェパードのワトソンさん追随者に一つのメッセージが有ります。彼の動機を考えて下さい。彼は目立ちがり屋で、その活動をテレビでも講演会の為に推進しています。正直に言うと、彼の無謀な活動で誰かが死ぬ危険性が有ります。ワトソンさんは、勿論日本人捕鯨船乗組員が死んだら気にしないけれど、プロパガンダ的に自分の乗組員が死んだら利用出来る価値が有ります。それは、本来の目標みたいです。彼の命令に従っている追随者達は、この事を深く考えた方がいいです。

The American Cougar Phenomenon アメリカの新しい男女関係

If I asked you what is an American Cougar, and you answered, a large cat, like this:

アメリカのクーガーは何ですかと聞かれて、貴方はこの様な山猫と返事をしましたら；



Well, you would be partially correct. Yes, the animal in the picture is a North American Cougar, which lives throughout the Western United States, and southern Florida.

貴方はだいたい正しいです。正直に言うと、上記の写真は北アメリカのクーガーです。アメリカの西部と南フロリダに住んでいます。

Yet there is another type of American Cougar, and here is a picture of such a cougar hunting her prey;

しかし、アメリカのクーガーのもう一つの種類が有ります。下記の写真は、その様な“クーガー”が獲物を狩り中です。



Well in this case, when we are talking about a two legged American Cougar, the prey is very specific. And he is called a "cub".

ここで、二本足のアメリカンクーガーと話をしますと、獲物ははっきり決まっています。彼は”カブ”（幼獣）と呼ばれています。

This phenomenon become known in America first in the late 1990's. Basically, it is defined as a women over 40, who goes after men in their lower 20's. Although marriage may happen, the basic goal seems to that "girls just want to have fun" even if these girls are over 40. Well, why not?

この現象は、１９９０年代後半にアメリカで現れました。基本的に、４０歳以上の女性が２０代前半の男性を追いかけるグループと決められています。結婚するかも知れないけれど、だいたいこの４０歳以上の女性の目標は、ただ
”ガールズ・ジャスト・ワナ・ハヴ・ファン”

Last December, there was even a "Cougar cruise" a ship left San Diego for three nights of fun. 300 people participated.

昨年１２月、楽しい三日間 “クーガークルーズ” は、サンディエゴから出発しました。３００人が参加しました。

A movie, "Cougar Club", and a TV show "Cougar Town", have been created highlighting this new social event.

映画 “クーガークラブ” とテレビドラマ ”クーガータウン” が、この新しい社交行事を反映して創られました。　

A famous couple was recently quite openly displaying themselves last August at a teen achievement award ceremony.

昨年８月、とても有名なカップルは、十代若者の業績賞儀式で発見されました。



I am sure everyone remembers the 2008 Presidential campaign in America. On the Republican side, Sarah Palin was the candidate for Vice President. During the campaign, it became obvious that her daughter Bristol was pregnant. The young man involved was determined to be a certain Levi Johnston, the young man in the above photo. After the election, Levi was forced by Sarah Palin to sever connections with the Palin family. The woman in the above photo is Kathy Griffin, an American famous comedienne. She is 49, he is 19.

アメリカ２００８年大統領選挙を覚えていますね。共和党のサラペイリンさんは副大統領の候補者でした。選挙中で彼女の娘、ブリストルさんは妊婦と分かりました。ブリストルさんの彼氏は、リーバイジョンストンさんでした。選挙後、サラペイリンさんがリーバイさんにペイリン家と縁を切る様にしました。上記の写真の女性は、キャシーグリフィンさんです。アメリカの有名な女性お笑い芸能人です。彼女は４９歳で、彼は１９歳です。

And how about the young men, I mean "cubs" involved in this movement. Well, it seems that they are genuinely young men who are interested in older women.

それで、この運動の若手男性、まあ、”カブ”達、彼達はどう言う気持ちですか？彼達はやっぱり本気で年上の女性に興味が有るみたいです。

Many Americans are very conservative, especially concerning sexual matters. They will of course be angered by this "Cougar" and "Cub" social movement. What do I think? Well, everybody wants to have fun, they are all adults, why not?

数多くのアメリカ人は保守的ですし、特に、セックス関係の事です。勿論、そう言うアメリカ人は、この“クーガー”と“カブ”の現象に怒ります。私はどう考えますか？まあ人は楽しい時間を過ごしたいし、皆は大人ですから、いいじゃないか！

Sumo - The changing of the guard 大相撲２０１０年２月レポート

So now, at the Changing of the Guard, I have decided to start getting back into my Sumo commentary. When I last wrote about Sumo was in May of 2009. That was the tournament where new Ozeki Harumafuji won his first championship. For the first time in a long time, we had some exciting new blood in the Ozeki ranks. In particular, I think Harumafuji becoming an Ozeki has caused Kotooshu to raise his game.

それでは、上位交代で相撲のコメントを続けたいと思います。私は２００９年５月から相撲レポートを書いていません。その場所で新大関日馬富士は自分の初優勝が出来ました。久しぶりに、刺激的な新しい大関が現れました。特に、日馬富士の影響で、琴欧州はもっと頑張る様に成ったと思います。

I have been a Sumo fan for about five years. In that time, Chiyotaikai and Kaio have been the Grand Old Veterans of Sumo. But to say it charitably, their last few years have not been their best. Well honestly, I must say that Kaio does still earn his keep. He does have that powerful right arm, and if he catches a Sekitori with it, well he will sweep him out of the Dohyo. In the case of Kaio, the younger Rikishi have to fight harder against him. But he just hangs in there, it is a long time since he regularly got more than a bare Kachikoshi.

私は５年位前から相撲ファンに成りました。この５年間で、千代大海と魁皇はベテラン力士でした。しかし、優しく言っても、最近の数年間は彼達の相撲がそんなに素晴しく無いです。まあ、正直に言うと、魁皇は何とか頑張っています。その強力な右腕で相手の力士を捕まえたら、土俵の外へ出します。魁皇の場合、若い力士達は努力が必要です。しかし、魁皇はいつもぎりぎりです。勝ち越しより、勝っているのはしばらくです。

On the other hand, Chiyotaikai's Sumo has been dismal for quite some time. Especially in the last year, there have been a lot of henka, and I do not like henka. True, he was once a great Rikishi, and a great Ozeki. But he hung on too long. He should have retired two years ago. I think it is sad that defining memory of Chiyotaikai will be the film of his defeat by Kaio, giving Kaio his record breaking 808th win.

ところで、千代大海はずっと暗いです。特に最近の一年間で、へんかが有り過ぎ、私は変化が嫌いです。昔彼は素晴らしい関取、素晴しい大関でしたは、本当です。でも、彼は長く残り過ぎました。２年前に引退したら良かったです。これから、千代大海の永遠の思い出は、魁皇の808回目の勝利映像でしょう。それは悲しいです。

We are going to be seeing that film clip for years. The thing about any sport is that we all get older, and there comes a point where no matter how great one might be, physically you can no longer perform.

その映像は、これから何年間も見るでしょう。スポーツの問題はどんな選手でもいつか年に成ります。それで、どんな優秀な選手でも、肉体的にもう出来ない時は来ます。

If you want to be a sport where you can go on into middle age, you should do golf.

中年までスポーツを行いたい気持ちが有りましたら、ゴルフをやった方がいいです。

But then golf can have it's problems too, just go ask Tiger Woods!

しかし、ゴルフでも問題が有ります。タイガーウッズに聞いて下さい！

Last week, I wrote this much about Sumo. But since then, there has truly earth shaking news, and this is the retirement of Asashoryu. Well, frankly, I think it was time. Despite being a fantastic Yokozuna, he just could not control his behavior.

先週、私は相撲についてこれを書きました。しかし、その時から、とても驚きのニュースが有りました。それは、朝青龍の引退です。正直に言うと、もう時間と思います。素晴しい横綱でも、自分の態度をコントロール出来ませんでした。

There is no excuse for violence. And his stable tried to cover it up. In a press conference where Asashoryu apologized for this most recent episode, he did not at all seem sincere. And it seems that this latest incident is merely the tip of the iceberg. Since his retirement, all sorts of stories are coming out in the media, Asashoryu punching hostesses in Osaka and that sort of thing.

暴力についての言い訳は有りません。それと、彼の部屋はその事件を隠すように努力しました。記者会見で、朝青龍はこの最近の事件に謝りましたけれど、全然心からの本気の謝りに見えませんでした。この最近の事件よりほかの問題もいっぱい有るみたいです。引退してから、マスコミで朝青龍について色々な話が出ています。朝青龍は大阪でホステスを殴ったり、その様な事をいっぱい週刊誌で書いています。

This is not the sort of behavior that any Sumo Rikishi should do, let alone a Yokozuna. He has to be an example for the entire sport. But the ultimate blame does not lie with Asashoryu. The person most responsible is Takasago Oyakata. It was his job to teach Asashoryu how to behave like a Sekitori, and a Yokozuna. And in this he failed miserably.

こう言う態度はどんな力士でも、特に、横綱の場合はとんでもない！横綱は、相撲世界の代表です。しかし、この問題の責任者は、すべて朝青龍では有りません。一番の責任者は、高砂親方です。彼の仕事は朝青龍に正しい関取と横綱の態度を教える事でした。この仕事で親方は完璧に失敗しました。

Well two high notes to finish up here. I am very happy to see that Takanohana Oyakata was elected to the Japan Sumo Association Board. And I was REALLY impressed by Aminishiki. There he was with that banged up leg. Half the time, he seemed to be limping around after a win. Yet win he did, for a total of 11 wins. Absolutely outstanding!

最後に、二つのいい話を書きましょう。貴乃花親方は相撲理事に成りまして、とても嬉しいです。それと、この場所で、安美錦は本当に印象に成りました！足は痛そうでした。たまに勝ってから、土俵で足を引きずりました。しかし、よく勝ちました！全部で１１勝でした！お見事です！

Changing of the Guard - 警備隊のシフトは変わります。会社で、上司の変化と言う意味です。相撲の場合、三役の上位の力士は変わります。

New Blood - 新人です。

Ranks, rank and file - 軍隊で普通の兵士達です。相撲で三役以下、前頭の力士と言う意味です。会社で役員以下の普通の社員です。

Raise his game - 自分のやり方をよくすると言う事です。

Earth shaking news - 地球を揺るがす、とても驚きなニュースです。

Tip of the iceberg - 氷山の上の分です。氷山は海に浮かんで、上の一割しか水面から上がらないです。９割は水面下です。アメリカ人はこのフレーズをよく使います。例えば政治家の賄賂事件の場合、"What the newspapers reported is only the tip of the iceberg" 新聞で書いたより話は深いです。

Should Gaijins vote 外国人に参政権をあげるべきですか？

Recently, there has been some talk of giving foreigners with permanent residence the right to vote in local elections.

最近、日本の永住権を持っている外国人に地方選挙に参政権をあげる話題が有ります。

I must say that I am totally against this plan. I know too many foreigners with permanent residence that are very strange people. They do not speak Japanese, and of course cannot read or write in Japanese.

私はこの計画にとても反対です。永住権を持っている変な外国人をいっぱい知っています。日本語を話しませんし、勿論日本語の読み書きは不可能です。

So how can they make a decision on who to vote for? How can they understand a candidate's position, and the needs of their community? This whole concept is a farce.

どう言う風に、この外国人達はどの候補者に投票する事を決めますか？日本語を出来ないと、自分の住んでいる街の問題とか必要な事を理解出来ますか？この計画は笑劇みたいです。

In fact, I think that fluency in the Japanese language should be a requirement for permanent residency. Permanent residents have the right to apply for welfare. I know too many English teacher type Gaijins who have permanent residency, but cannot find work in Japan.

正直に言うと、外国人に永住権を与えるのに、日本語能力を要求するべきと思います。永住者は国から福祉を申し込む権利が有ります。私が知っている永住外国人の中で数多くが英語の先生しか出来ませんし、現在日本で仕事は有りません。

The English teaching boom is over, we don't need so many foreign teachers. Permanent residence allows a Gaijin to perform any job in Japan. So it should only be given to those who have the language skills to perform any job.

英会話のブームはもう終わりです。外国人英会話先生はこれからそんなに必要有りません。永住者は日本でどんな仕事でも出来るから、日本語の出来る外国人だけにあげるべきと思います。

And yes, I understand the situation of special permanent residents, such as Koreans born and grown up in Japan. But even though their ancestors came from Korea, they are born and grown up in Japan, for all practical purposes they are Japanese. They should take Japanese nationality.

それと、特別永住者、例えば在日韓国人とか朝鮮人の状態をよく分かっています。しかし、先祖は韓国から来た人達でも、生まれ育ちは日本ですから、実は彼達は日本人でしょう。日本に帰化すれば、生活はもっと簡単に成ります。

As for myself, I consider myself a German. Germany is my ancestral land. But I have never been to Germany. I was born and grew up in the United States, and English is my first language. My passport is American.

自分の事について、私の考えで私はドイツ人です。ドイツは私の先祖の国です。しかし、一度もドイツへ行った事が有りません。私はアメリカで生まれ育って、パスポートはアメリカです。

And although I live in Japan, I vote in American elections by absentee ballot. In a year or two, I will apply for Japanese nationality, and then I will vote in Japan.

日本に住んでいても、不在投票でアメリカの選挙に投票しています。１か２年位後で、日本国籍を申し込んで、貰いました日本の選挙に投票します。

But I strongly believe that voting rights should only come with citizenship.

投票権利は、絶対国籍と組んでいると思います！

America enters 2010 アメリカは２０１０年に成りました。

In the town of Moberly, in the state of Missouri in America, there is an elementary school. There is something going on in this school. Every friday afternoon, 106 backpacks are placed in a certain location. And every one is taken by a child.

アメリカのミズーリ州モバリ市に、小学校は有ります。この小学校は特別な活動を行なっています。毎週金曜日の午後に、１０６個のリュックサックは有る場所に置いています。その各リュックサックは子供が持ち帰ります。

The backpacks are filled with food. The situation is, the school serves the children breakfast and lunch on schooldays. But for many children, that is all the food that eat. They have nothing at night, and nothing on Saturdays and Sundays.

このリュックサックには食べ物が入っています。実は、この小学校は子供達に朝食と昼食を出します。しかし、数多くの子供達はそれしか食べられません。平日の夕食と土曜日と日曜日に、その困っている子供達は全く何も食べません。

Since many children live in single parent homes, and the parent must work, there may not be someone to prepare the food. So the backpacks are filled with simple things a child can do by themselves. Cans of soup, fruit, and pasta, cereal bars and cans of juice.

多くの子供達は親一人しか居ないのです。その一人親の仕事中の時に、食べ物を準備する人は家に居ません。その理由の為に、リュックサックの中身は子供一人でも作りやすい物、例えばスープ、パスタ、果実の缶詰め、シリアルバー（シリアルを棒状に固めたもの）と缶ジュースです。

The fact is, their parents simply cannot afford to buy enough food. When I wrote the first paragraph for this article, I wanted to use the words rare, or perhaps unusual in describing this. But that sad fact is that many schools across America have programs like this.

事実、その子供達の親は食料を買うお金が有りません。この記事の最初の節を書いた時に、普通ではない、とか珍しいと言う単語を使いたかったです。しかし、悲しい現実はアメリカでこういう活動を行なっている学校が多いです。

Official American statistics show that in 2008 12% of Americans did not have enough to eat. In 2009 the figure has risen to 16%.

アメリカ政府の調べた統計で、２００８年に１２％のアメリカ人は食料が足りませんでした。２００９年にその数は１６％に成りました。

At the end of 2009, many of the executives of the investment Goldman Sachs applied for gun permits. They were afraid that once their extremely high bonus figures were published in the media, they might face public anger, and have to defend themselves.

２００９年末に、ゴールドマンサックス金融会社幹部の数多くは銃の携帯許可を申請しました。彼達の年末高額ボーナスの数字はマスコミに載りましたから、アメリカの普通の市民が怒って、自分の身を守る必要が有ると心配しています。

In the last few decades, there has been a massive transfer of wealth in America. The top 1% of the population has become much richer. The status of the other 99% has stayed the same or fallen. And the numbers of people whose income is dropping is increasing.

最近の数十年間に、アメリカ社会で巨大な財産の動きが有りました。アメリカ人の最上の１％の人々はもっとお金持ちに成っています。アメリカ人の残りの９９％の人々の経済状態は、そのままか、それとも落ちています。収入が落ちている人の数が増えています。

A large part of this is due to financial companies like Goldman Sachs. The trades these companies conducted were complex, many average people were duped, or simply cheated. And their collapse in the fall of 2008 threatened the world economy. Yet the US government bailed them out with taxpayer money, and they have merrily continued their dangerous financial trades.

この問題について、ゴールドマンサックスみたいな金融会社の責任は大きいです。この金融会社の取引は複雑でしたし、数多くのアメリカ人がだまされまして、詐欺の様にお金を失いました。この金融会社がつくった２００８年の経済危機は、世界の経済を危ない状態にさせました。アメリカ政府から緊急援助金を貰っても、この金融会社は現在でも危険取引を続けています。

While we cannot predict the future with certainty, it is my guess that in 2010 the gap between the very few rich and the rest of Americans will continue to widen. And that the numbers of truly desperate people will continue to grow.

確かに、将来の事をはっきり予測出来ません。しかし、２０１０年にアメリカの数人の大金持ちの人々とその他のアメリカ人の隙間はもっと広く成るでしょう。絶望的な人の数は増えるでしょう。

This cannot mean a healthy America.

この状態は健康的なアメリカでは有りません。

Futenma and Afghan police 普天間基地とアフガン警察の問題

There has been a lot of yelling and screaming in the press about the Futenma base move. Frankly, as I have said previously, Japan does not need the American military for Defense needs. The American bases are here for power projection.

最近、マスコミで普天間基地移動の問題は話題に成っています。私は以前このブログに書きました通り、日本の防衛の為に日本でアメリカ基地は必要有りません。アメリカ戦力展開の為に、日本に有ります。

Americans have a very difficult time negotiating with other countries. Americans know how to demand and to order people, but have little patience with discussion. Most Americans think other nations should obey American orders, and fight wars under American direction around the world. Most Americans think they are fighting for world freedom, and cannot why other nations do not want to help.

アメリカ人は他国と交渉する事は難しいです。アメリカ人は他国に命令したり、とか要求したりする事が上手いけれど、話し合いのやり方が分かりません。ほんとどのアメリカ人の考えで、世界の国々はアメリカの命令を従うべき、アメリカの指導で世界中で戦争をするべきと思っていますし、この戦争は世界の自由の為に行なっていますと信じて、それと世界の他の国々がその戦争に参加しない理由を理解出来ません。

As far as the idea of training the Afghan police, forget it. The Afghan Army itself is 90% illiterate, it won't fight. Most soldiers quit, and then come back for training again. They do this because each time they go to training, they are issued a weapon, which they then sell to the Taliban. There are no firm figures on how many Afghan Army soldiers actually exist.

アフガン警察を訓練する事について、無理です。アフガン陸軍の方は、９０％読み書きを出来ませんし、戦場へ参加する事を拒否しています。ほとんどの兵士は辞めて、それでもう一度訓練に入ります。何故こう言うふうなやり方をしますかと言うと、訓練に入ったら武器を受けます。そして軍を辞めて，タリバンにその武器を売って、もう一度軍の訓練を繰り返しします。アフガン兵の数ははっきり分かりにくいです。

As far as the Afghan police, for the most part, they are on the side of the Taliban, and often actively help the Taliban.

The Afghan Army kills their foreign trainers only sometimes, while the Afghan police do so more often.

The entire war in both Afghanistan and Iraq are impossible. However, Americans, with the concept of American Exceptionalism, cannot understand that there is nothing that can be accomplished by war in the Middle East. They cannot understand that there are no reasons for these wars.

The result will worse than Vietnam.

But would there really be a war?

しかし、どこかの国は本当に日本に攻めますか？

Now let's talk a little about war. Would some nation truly attack Japan? I will say something clearly. Wars are begun for profit. A nation attacks another in order to gain something. Of course, war is also a risk. The target nation has it's own forces. One cannot always be sure of the outcome. In warfare, there is what I call the rule of three. In general, it means the attacking force must have three times the number of defenders in order to be sure to win. This is assuming that we are on flat open terrain, weapons and training levels in both forces are equal. However, if the defender is in difficult terrain, such as a town, mountain, or behind a river, we need many more attackers to be sure of winning, something like five to one.

これから戦争の理論を説明します。どこかの国は、本当に日本に攻撃しますか？一つの事を私がはっきり言います。戦争は、利益の為に始まります。何かを取るか貰うかで国が戦争します。勿論、戦争は損害の危険性が有ります。標的な国は自分達の軍隊が有ります。戦争が始まって、結果ははっきり分かりません。戦争をすると、私は”３のルール”と呼んでいる基準が有ります。このルールと言う意味は、だいたい、戦場で勝つ為に守る軍の数より攻撃軍は３倍の数は必要です。これは平な地形で、両軍は訓練と武器は平等なレベルで有る場合です。しかし、守る軍は複雑な地形で戦っている場合、例えば山、街、それとも川の背後に、攻める軍はもっと数が必要です、５対１位必要です。

Japan is an island nation, and amphibious warfare is one of the most difficult of all. To successfully invade Japan, a nation would need something like ten to one as many troops.

日本は島国ですから、上陸作戦は最も難しいです。日本列島の侵略を成功する為に、多分１０対１の兵士の数は必要です。

But there is another factor involved here. A force invading Japan would have to cross the ocean, they must first destroy the Japanese Navy and Air Force to be successful. Also, remember that an attacking force will be operating far from their home bases, while Japanese defenders are close to their bases. This means that damaged Japanese ships and aircraft will tend to be recovered and repaired, while the enemy will lose them.

しかし、もう一つの要因が有ります。日本に侵略する為に、どこかの国の軍は海を渡らなければなりません。その海上移動が成功に成る為に、その前に日本海上自衛隊と航空自衛隊を完璧に絶滅しなければなりません。それと、攻撃軍は自分の軍基地から長距離で戦いますし、日本を守る自衛隊は基地の近くで戦います。この意味は、敵軍は戦闘損傷した軍機と軍艦はほとんど失いますが、日本自衛隊の軍機と軍艦はほとんど何とか日本基地に戻って、修理して、再び戦場へ戻ります。

There is no force on the planet today that can invade Japan. In World War II, by 1942, both Japan and America had seriously damaged each other's Naval carrier forces. America could build more ships more quickly than Japan could, and that is the reason that America won. The only reason. Only in the Philippines and New Guinea could the US Army successfully fight against the Imperial Japanese Army. And that was overwhelming force. Even on the island of Okinawa, the US Army gave up and had to be replaced by Marines. Most of the island fighting in the Pacific was done by US Marines.

現在、日本に成功的侵略を出来る軍隊は有りません。太平洋戦争で
１９４２年までに、アメリカと日本は両方の航空母艦の艦隊を戦闘損傷それとも沈没されました。しかし、アメリカは日本より新しい軍艦と軍機を造る力が有りましたから、その理由で、アメリカが勝ちました。アメリカの勝利はその理由だけです。ピィリピン諸島とニューギニア島だけで、帝国陸軍に成功が出来ました。アメリカはそこで圧倒的に武力が有って勝ちました。沖縄の戦いで、アメリカ陸軍は日本帝国陸軍と戦いを諦めまして、アメリカ海兵隊と交代しました。太平洋戦争で、アメリカ側の戦いはほとんど海兵隊が行いました。

My point here is that Japanese make excellent soldiers. Many of my Japanese friends tell me that we need Americans to protect Japan, because Japan is too weak to do it ourselves.

ここで、私が書きたいポイントは、日本人は立派な兵士に成ります。私の日本人友達から、”日本人は弱くて、防衛の為にアメリカ人が必要です。”

This is not true at all. In my paragraphs above I have tried to show this. The truth is, an American military presence is no longer necessary for the defense of Japan. They can go home now.

これは全然違います。私はこの上記節で日本の本当の力を教えるつもりです。正直に言うと、日本を守る為にアメリカ軍はもう必要有りません。アメリカへ帰って大丈夫です。

But why are US troops still here? there is only one reason, power projection for American interests across the world. The Middle Eastern wars are a prime example. However, these Middle Eastern wars do not serve Japanese interests. What few terrorists exist can easily be handled by police forces. Also, these wars do not serve any American interest. It seems as if the US military is on autopilot.

それに、どうしてアメリカ軍はまだ日本に居ますか？理由は一つです。アメリカ軍は、世界中で戦力展開です。しかし、この中近東戦争は日本の利益に成っていません。テロリストは数人しか居ません、警察の仕事です。アメリカもこの戦争で利益に成っていません。やはり、アメリカ軍隊は自動操縦みたいです。

In the Middle East, the US military has been defeated. The US military just refuses to understand this. It is high time to find a new basis for the Japanese/American relationship other than military power.

中近東では、アメリカ軍はもう負けています。アメリカはこの真実を理解したくないです。現在までに、アメリカと日本の関係は軍事協力でした。これから新しい関係を創らなければなりません。

私のこの前のポストにコメントが来ました。その読者の恐れは、アメリカ軍が撤退しましたら、中国はすぐに尖閣諸島に侵略します。私は心配有りません。

If China invades the Senkaku's the costs will outweigh any benefit. Also, Japanese forces alone are powerful enough to defeat a Chinese invasion. China has much more to gain in cooperation with Japan on a technological level, rather than invade some territory.

もし中国は尖閣諸島に攻撃をしましたら、そのコストは利益より大きいです。日本自衛隊だけでその攻撃に勝ちます。これから日中関係で、攻撃より中国は日本と協力で利益が高く成ります。


The future of Japanese Diplomacy.

日本外交の将来。

I see Japanese Diplomacy having four directions in the future. These are America, Russia, China, and the southern direction.

私の想像で、将来の日本外交は四方面が有るでしょう。この四方面は、アメリカ、ロシア、中国と南方です。

America: America is a very complex issue. There are almost no Americans who realize the depth of problems facing the nation. America is fighting wars very far their homeland in the Middle East. To the Americans, they feel it natural that Japanese participate in such wars. But wars in the Middle East have no benefit for Japan, in fact they are dangerous.

アメリカ：アメリカはとても複雑な問題です。現在のアメリカの問題を理解しているアメリカ人はほとんど居ません。アメリカは中近東で本国から長距離の戦争中です。アメリカ人の考えで、日本自衛隊も協力して一緒にその戦場への参加はあたりまえです。しかし、中近東戦争は日本に利益が有りませんし、やはり危険です。

At home, America is facing a complete collapse of it's internal transport system. Virtually all American transport is based on oil, and oil is quickly running out. Americans place their faith in discovering new sources of oil, or the invention of new technology. The fact is there is no technology that can revamp the US transport system in time. And there are no more big new oil fields. It would take 20 years to replace all cars in America. At best, before transport collapse in the US there is some 5 years from now from lack of oil. What this will mean it will become impossible to travel inside the US, and food will not come to the cities. People will stave.

本国で、アメリカは国内運送システムはまもなく崩壊でしょう。アメリカの運送システムはすべて石油を利用していますので、石油はもう消えています。アメリカ人は新しい油田をどこかで発見しますか、それか新しい技術は開発されるでしょう。真実はアメリカの運送システムを急に作り直す技術は有りません。それと大きい新しい油田は有りません。アメリカに有る車を全部新しい車に取りかえる事は２０年かかります。しかし、石油減らしでアメリカ運送システム崩壊は後５年位でしょう。この結果は、アメリカ国内で物でも人でも運送出来なく成って、食料は大都市まで運べません。アメリカ国民は餓死します。

American agriculture is based on single crops, one type of corn or wheat, one type of cow or pig. These are raised on massive corporate farms. However, the climate is changing very rapidly, and these crops and animals will not survive. Drought is becoming more serious every year, and deserts will increase greatly across the American continent. What Americans do not realize is that the American Plains States are naturally semi desert. Now they are the breadbasket of America, but the water comes from underground aquifers. It is not being replaced , it is almost gone.

アメリカの農業産業は単作経営です。トウモロコシ、それとも麦の一つの種、牛でも豚でも一つの種しか有りません。これは、強大な企業農業で育っています。しかし、気候は温暖化で急に変化しています。毎年干ばつは厳しく成っています。これから、アメリカ大陸で砂漠は広く成ります。アメリカ人は分かっていませんけれど、アメリカ大平原諸州は自然的に砂漠に近い地区です。現在この地区はアメリカの穀倉地帯ですが、利用されている水が帯水層から取っています。その低下水の水は消えています。

Japan can help by building high speed Bullet Trains, but because of the stupidity of American financial institutions, America cannot pay for them. They would have to be owned and operated by Japanese companies.

日本はアメリカで新幹線を創れば助かりますけれど、アメリカの金融企業の馬鹿な失敗で、アメリカはその新幹線の支払いは出来ません。やっぱり日本の企業は直接金融を経営しなければ成りません。

America is facing Civil War. The Christian Fundamentalist movement in America wants to change America into a Theocracy. Basically, they would forbid all books except the Bible, all music except Christian music, all education except Christian. And these are not the types of Christian churches that have existed in America until now, these churches are to be destroyed. People who do not convert to their type of Christianity are to be expelled or killed. these people have heavy influence in the US government and the military. In the recent US Presidential election, the candidacy of Sarah Palin was an expression of this movement. They represent some 40% of Americans, with some 25% having such extreme views as I have written here.

アメリカは内乱の可能性が有ります。原理主義キリスト教の運動は、アメリカを新政国家に切り替えするつもりが有ります。基本的に、彼達の創りたいアメリカでは、聖書以外の本は禁止に成って、キリスト教音楽以外の音楽は禁止、原理主義キリスト教以外の教育は禁止にします。原理主義キリスト教以外の宗派の教会は崩壊します。原理主義キリスト教に改宗しない人々は集団国外追放それとも死刑にします。最近のアメリカ大統領選挙で、サラペイリンさんの立候補はこの原理主義キリスト教運動からでした。アメリカの人口の４割は原理主義信者で、私が上記に書いた極端な考え方を持っている原理主義信者は、アメリカの人口２．５割です。

Russia: I believe that Russia is a natural partner of Japan. Climate Change means that Siberia will be much more accessible. They will need Japanese technology. Yet half the population of Siberia is Chinese. Japan would be a natural ally to develop Siberia and provide a balance to China.

ロシア：ロシアは日本の自然的なパートナーです。温暖化で、シベリアの資源はもっと取りやすく成ります。日本の技術も必要でしょう。しかし、シベリアの人口は半分中国人です。中国に対してバランスをとる為に、日本は自然同盟国でもいいでしょう。

China is also a natural partner to Japan. We have deep history together. Yet China is also facing the prospect of internal Civil War, the impoverished interior versus the rich coasts. Also, China is facing deep problems because of Climate Change. The difference between China and America is that the Chinese realize this, they are working to solve these problems. I am not naive about how China feels towards Japan, they feel a natural relationship is China the elder brother, Japan is the younger brother. I feel it is more like China is the body, Japan is the head.

中国も日本の自然的なパートナーです。日本と中国はお互いに深い歴史が有ります。しかし、中国も内乱の可能性は有りますし、貧しい国内対お金持ち海岸地区です。それと、温暖化で中国は色々な厳しい問題が出ています。中国とアメリカの違いは、中国人はこの問題を理解していますし、解決を見つける為に努力しています。私は中国人は自分の国をお兄さんで、日本は弟の様に考えていると分かっています。私の考え方は、中国は身体、日本は頭です。

The Southern direction.

南方
I think the southern direction will be a line from Japan to Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and India. This line will provide another balance.

南の国の外交で、もう一つのバランスに成ります。この線は台湾、フィリピン、インドネシア、マレーシア、ベトナム、タイ、インドネシア、オーストラリアとインドです。

Since the end of WWII, Japanese foreign policy has been American centric. I think we will now see an evolution to Japan as a nation at the center of these four lines.

終戦から、日本の外交は基本的にアメリカ向きでした。これから、日本はこの四つの外交線の中央の国として漸進的変化するでしょう。
