Concerning the Senkaku Problem
The Takeshima problem has quieted down, but recently there have been a lot of riots in China over the Senkaku issue.
Many Japanese officials, businessmen, and media people seem to think America will protect The Senkaku islands for Japan.
Well the answer to that is a definite NO. America does not really want to fight China. China owns to many US National bonds. Also, in their hearts, Americans have always felt China is a more important country than Japan. That is simply because of numbers of people, they look on China as a bigger market.
http://www.japantoday.com/category/politics/view/panetta-urges-calm-but-says-u-s-takes-no-sides-in-japan-china-dispute
America has now invited China to participate in military exercises.

Americans have no understanding of how much Japanese people feel for America.
But if it came to war between Japan and China, Japan would win, without American help.

How to fight back against screaming Koreans: Fight back with facts.
Recently, one of my readers has referred to a post on my blog.
http://tokyomaxtalks.blogspot.jp/2012/07/how-to-counter-attack-on-comfort-women.html
This person is a lives in a small town in New Zealand. The reader says that there are many Koreans in this town, and they are always accusing Japan of being a terrible country.
http://blog.livedoor.jp/the_radical_right/archives/52897396.html
Gradually, the local New Zealand people are becoming convinced by these Korean people that Japan is indeed a terrible country.
Well, my advice to my reader is to fight back with facts.
There never was a Korean war of independence.
http://tokyomaxtalks.blogspot.jp/2012/08/president-lee-myung-bak-and-his.html
Japan has paid a lot of compensation to many countries for the war, and especially Korea.
Concerning the Comfort women issue, the Korean government ran exactly the same program for US troops after the Korean war.
Well, since before WWII, most of the people who recruited Korean women for Japanese troops were ethnic Koreans, this is no surprise that they would do the same thing after WWII.
And there was no resistance to Japanese rule before and during the war. Koreans were citizens of the Japanese Empire.
And even today, in the United States and Australia, Korean prostitution is a serious problem. The woman are treated like slaves. And it is Korean traffickers, Korean people who are doing this to their own people.
http://tokyomaxtalks.blogspot.jp/2012/06/concerning-comfort-women-memorials.html
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2011/11/117_98737.html
For my reader in New Zealand, I know that there are many bitter memories about WWII in Australia and New Zealand. In particular, many people who were prisoners of Japan, were treated harshly.
Well please tell these people that most guards of POW camps were ethnic Koreans. The Korean guards in general were much more cruel that ethnic Japanese or ethnic Taiwanese guards.
Of course, the Koreans say that Japanese people forced them to be cruel.
http://www8.atwiki.jp/holhol15/pages/33.html
This is ridiculous. Koreans were willing participants in WWII, as citizens of the Empire of Japan. After the war, the Allied powers divided Korea into two halves, and yes there was a tragic war.
But for the Korean people to keep claiming compensation, no matter how much they receive, and to keep complaining about how bad Japan is, well not only is this a lie, it says something about the Korean people themselves. And it is not pretty.
After visiting Takeshima and creating this present mess, South Korean President Lee Myung Bak is now in Europe, making noise there.
http://japanese.joins.com/article/385/159385.html
They are simply a very selfish and petty people.
I became very angry over Korean behavior during the World Cup of 2002. It is obvious that they bought the referees.
The following Youtube video shows Korea versus Portugal Spain and Italy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkbv08ndsoU
And the insults against other teams by average Koreans. This is not sporting. I am an ethnic German, and when I saw the pictures of German players set up as funeral pictures, I was very angry. And in the last Olympics, there was a lot of rough play by Korea.

I think that these actions should be investigated, and Korea banned from participation in international sports events until they can show that they can behave in a civilized manner.
And to my readers in other countries, when the local Korean people keep crying about how bad Japan was, just tell the local New Zealanders, or English or Americans, that in WWII, Koreans were willing citizens of the Empire of Japan. Fight back with facts.
Now they want to portray themselves to the world as poor victims, and receive more money, even though compensation has been paid. They think that can cheat at sports events.
They are a cheating, immature nation.

September 2012 Osprey incident
On September 7th 2012 there was a near crash with an Osprey in North Carolina.
According to the Japanese government, the incident was not serious, merely that a cockpit warning light had come on.
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/nn20120912b1.html
The above photo shows the Osprey sitting in the field it landed in.
However, according to local people, there was a fire. Smoke was seen coming from an engine, the aircraft brushed trees as it made an emergency landing in an open area.
http://www.jdnews.com/articles/landing-108077-precautionary-warning.html
The Japanese and American governments say that the accident is trivial, yet people are sure to have doubts.
Also, they keep saying all accidents to date are pilot error. I think what happened in North Carolina was the heroic action of the Marine Corps crew to prevent a serious accident with a dangerous aircraft. It was a near crash. And Japan does not so many open areas like America does.

2) Drought, Climate Change, and American beliefs (Part 2 )
Here I will talk about American thinking on Climate Change.

But are so many Americans truly so ignorant? Yes.
The greatest problem here is American Christianity. I must say here that American Christianity is much different than in Europe. In particular, American Christian Fundamentalism. Really, it is like a cult. Their teachings are very different from normal Christianity. Basically, they think that if you believe in God, God will satisfy all desires. Of course then God will solve all problems, such as Global Warming. So there is no need for humans to worry about Climate Change, they can continue their lifestyle. They are ignoring the fact that this lifestyle is causing pollution that is destroying the planet.
Roughly, this is half the American population.
According to this link by an American television science commentator, 78% believe that the Christian God is controlling evolution, or that God created humans as they exist today 10,000 years ago, evolution doesn't exist.

It is really difficult for intelligent Americans to explain the most basic science facts when so many people get so emotional, and start quoting the Bible. The religious people always say "The Bible is the word of God, how can you say God is wrong?!?!"
I think this is very hard for Japanese people to understand. But when it comes to religion, so many Americans get dogmatic and stubborn.
In the 1930's dust bowl, some 350,000 people moved as their land turned to desert.

The amount of refuges will be enormous. I think, well I think that this is the end of America as we know it. There will be starvation and mass disorder in America.
This drought has been building for 30 years, there is nothing that can be done to stop it.
In Japan, many people depend on America psychologically. They think that America is our big brother, America will always protect Japan.
To the people of Japan, we must prepare. In the near future, there will be no more American military in Japan, they will be recalled to try and control the US population in this disaster.
There will be no more food exports to Japan. Well if America does not have enough food, how can they send food to Japan?
Of course, it is possible that this coming winter could have a miraculous snowfall. It happened in the the winter of 2010/2011. Otherwise the 2011 drought would have been much worse. But it is very unlikely. And in any case, we cannot depend on miracles for the future, they are exceptional events.
In Japan, we are going to have to prepare, for a world without America.

1) Drought, Climate Change, and American beliefs (Part 1 )
Recently, Senator Baucus from Montana visited Japan, and urged Prime Minister Noda to ease restrictions on US beef.
http://www.baucus.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=1128
Well the above link is from his official website. He shows very little understanding of Japanese concepts of food purity. I know, I once helped to introduce an American ice franchise into Japan.
http://tokyomaxtalks.blogspot.jp/2012/05/tpp-american-opposition-to-tpp.html
Americans have a very difficult time to understand that other countries have different preferences and needs than America.
But there is another factor about the Senator that I find distressing. He seems to be extremely ignorant about the effects of the drought in America.
Cattle ranchers across the American West are selling their herds, on a large scale. They do not have water or feed. They are cutting down to a core herd of animals.

Very bad.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/12/opinion/sunday/extreme-weather-and-drought-are-here-to-stay.html?_r=2
So the Senator from Montana, he is trying to sell Japan American beef that no longer exists, and never will again.
Well, How can I say such a shocking thing? It is quite simple, it is the truth. last year in July, I wrote a scenario about American oil collapse. In that post, I talked about American factory farms.

Is the Osprey militarily useful?
Well the investigative commission on the safety of the Osprey has returned from America, and declared the recent accidents in Florida and Morocco were the results of pilot error.
No surprise, most people knew this would be the result before the commission ever left Japan.
So now, we are left with three conclusions.
1. The government is lying.
2. American pilots flying the Osprey are terrible pilots.
3. The Osprey is a very difficult aircraft to fly.
I think the truth is a combination of conclusions 1 and 3.
1. As I have written before, there have been a lot more accidents and crashes than the government will admit to with the Osprey.

2. I was stationed on Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni when I was an American Marine. I knew many Marine pilots, they are a very courageous group. They also train very hard. To keep blaming crashes on pilot mistakes is an insult to the United States Marine Corps.
3. There is a lot to this. Virtually all accidents seem be happening when transitioning from vertical to level flight or vice versa. Common sense should tell you that when you switch the direction of thrust in an aircraft at low altitude, disaster can often be the result.
In any case, the basic argument from America now seems to be that the aircraft is safe, all accidents are because of pilot error. So this means that American pilots are not safe? After all, in Japan, it is American military pilots who will be flying these aircraft.
As far as military usage of this aircraft, well so-so. It can carry 24 Marines.
http://obiekt.seesaa.net/article/139086985.html
Now that bit in the link about higher altitude has no
meaning. The intention of the Osprey is to land Marines. To do that, it must land on the ground. This would put it in range of every weapon the enemy force has.
The long range question is also useless. Let us assume that America would help defend the Senkaku islands using the Osprey. 12 aircraft could carry 288 Marines. Let say, for debate purposes, that China put 300 troops on the Senkaku islands.
The truth here is, the 288 Marines would become prisoners or be killed by the Chinese in an hour or two. If China put a landing force on the islands, they would also land some sort of artillery weapons, machine guns, and a lot of ammunition.
Now as a former Marine, we were trained that what we carry on our back, such as food water and ammunition, is all we get.
I would think that an Osprey could carry a small mortar or a machine gun, and ammunition for them. But then the weight of these weapons would mean a reduction in the number of infantry men they could carry.
In any case, relying on the Osprey alone to retake the Senkaku islands, it would take the 12 aircraft several hours to fly back to Okinawa, reload more Marines and ammunition, and fly back to the Senkaku's.
In that time the initial force would run out of ammunition, and be killed or captured.
It makes no sense.
A few points. Looking at the figures in my previous blog post about the Osprey, only about 1/3 of the aircraft are available for flying at any given time. It seems they break down a lot besides crashing a lot.
http://tokyomaxtalks.blogspot.jp/2012/08/osprey-crash-updates.html
So out of the 12 aircraft in Japan, we should plan on only 4 being operational. That means 96 Marines. Also, history shows that Airborne landing troops must be reinforced quickly to avoid disaster.
The proper way to retake the Senkaku islands would be to dominate the nearby ocean with our Navy, and dominate the skies with our Air Force.
We would land on the islands both with landing craft and helicopters. There is no need for a long range Osprey.
Another point. Recently, Chinese activists landed on a Senkaku island. There was a group of Japanese police and Immigration officers, of greater numbers, waiting for them. We had advance knowledge of the attempt, and prepared.
We did not need the Osprey.
And the Chinese government did nothing to back up the protesters. While they still maintain that the islands belong to them, they don't want to make trouble about the issue.
And in any case, using the Osprey to retake the Senkaku islands is impossible. The US government has made it clear that it is neutral on the subject.
http://sankei.jp.msn.com/world/news/120710/amr12071011340005-n1.htm
A few weeks ago on Hodo station, I saw a news broadcast, where a spokeswomen for President Obama clearly said that the United States is neutral in this affair. Yet a guest of Newscaster Furutachi started talking, and he said that by analyzing American aircraft carrier movements, and by understanding the secret policies of the Obama administration, he said that America would defiantly protect the Senkaku islands for Japan.
Now wait a minute here. The American President just declared neutrality. He means it. There are too many people in Japan who believe too much in America, that America will always do good things for Japan.
No, America will do good things for America first. If it is good for Japan, well that is nice. If it is bad for Japan, then too bad for Japan.
Really, there are a lot of people who need education about America. It is not an evil country, no country really is, but they will look to their own interests first.
A few people have been saying that the Osprey would be good in case of natural disaster.
No it would be a greater disaster. In the link below, here is a video of an Osprey injuring 10 people at a festival in New York city.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/31/staten-island-helicopter-_n_595280.html
In Japan, in natural disasters, schools are used as refugee centers. An Osprey landing in a school yard would break all the windows in the building and blow down trees, it's down draft is so strong. Of course many people would be injured or killed.
So the presence of the Osprey in Japan is really useless for Japanese interests. So why is it here?
I can think of only one reason, business. Too many Japanese people in their 60's and 70's worship America as a superior country. They assume everything American is better than Japan. Everything Americans say, they believe.
In America, there is an expression, "If someone is stupid enough to buy this, I am smart enough to sell it".
I understand that Americans want to expand missile defense systems in Japan.
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/nn20120825a3.html
A basic analysis would teach a person that missile defense systems don't work and are very expensive.
http://www.salon.com/2012/05/19/missile_defense_is_back/singleton/
http://www.thebulletin.org/web-edition/columnists/kennette-benedict/dream-deterred
America also wants to deploy drones in Japan.
http://news.antiwar.com/2012/08/09/us-deploying-surveillance-drones-near-china/
Again, here is another military system that does not work at all as it is supposed to.
I think partly Americans believe their own propaganda about technology. But also, they think Japanese people will buy without question anything they offer to us.
I think that all this money would be better spent helping the Tohoku region recover from 3/11, developing renewable energy sources, and increasing Japan's food self sufficiency.
And please, don't believe Americans, too many of them are just salesmen for some useless, expensive military equipment.
Japanese leaders must learn to examine the evidence themselves without prejudice.

The "Occupy Wall Street" forecast
The American Democratic party will hold it's convention from September 4th to 6th in Charlotte North Carolina.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Democratic_National_Convention
And the Republicans will have theirs from August 27th to 30th in Tampa Florida.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Republican_National_Convention
The "Occupy Wall street" has been quiet since last May. However, they are planning big protests at the conventions.
At the Republican convention, 15,000 Occupy Wall Street protesters are expected to come.
http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/local_news/5-things-you-need-to-know-happening-in-florida-on-thursday-august-16
At the Democratic convention, the protests could be even more disruptive. This is because while there is certainly no love between the "Occupy Wall Street" movement and the Republican party, they feel betrayed by the Democrats. The Democrats are supposed to take care of the Average American.
The truth is, the situation of America's Middle Class is as bad as ever, and getting worse. People have no hope.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/22/middle-class-lost-decade_n_1822661.html
One thing that I have noticed about the "Occupy Wall Street" movement is that it has taken on a definite Marxist type of philosophy.
http://www.japantoday.com/category/opinions/view/america-at-the-breaking-point?utm_campaign=jt_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=jt_newsletter_2012-07-27_PM
Well this is understandable. The American Middle Class is being destroyed by Corporate greed. Yet I see Japanese leaders who think that Japan should obey America in every way.
I do not think it is wise that we create a society in Japan with such inequalities as America, and that Japanese people should live lives that are as miserable as Americans.
